Engineer Intern Application

Upon successful completion of your Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam individuals will need to apply to receive their Engineering Intern (EIT) certification. This certification is required for all individuals who will be seeking future Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the state of North Dakota.

According to North Dakota Century Code (NDCC) 43-19.1-15 the requirements for registering as an EIT are as follows:

1.) Successful completion of a Board approved exam in the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE Exam), this requirement cannot be waived by the Board.

2.) Graduation with a Baccalaureates in an Engineering, Engineering Related, or an accredited (ETAC) Engineering Technology degree. All registration in North Dakota is based solely on the Baccalaureates degree.

3.) Required years of experience:

  • ABET Accredited Engineering Degree = No experience
  • Non-ABET Accredited Engineering Degree = 4 years of experience
  • Engineering Technology (ETAC) or Engineering Related Degree = 6 years of experience

1.) Completed application form

  • All non-ABET accredited engineering degrees require the submittal of the experience record to accompany the application

2.) Three character references that are NOT family members or members of our Board.

3.) Official copies of your transcripts

  • All foreign degrees require a credentials evaluation from NCEES.

 

Instructions for submitting your application:

1.) All applications must be fully filled out, this means do not leave any applicable sections blank. Your application must be typed, hand written or illegible applications will not be accepted and will be returned.

2.) Copies of transcripts, and all reference letters must be mailed to the Board office from your universities and references.

Standard processing time for all applications is 6-8 weeks from receipt of a completed application. All applications are processed in the order they are received.
