Continuing Education

Any Professional Engineer or Professional Land Surveyor registered in North Dakota, unless exempt by statute, is required to submit continuing education credits when it is time to renew their professional license.  The administrative rules that govern North Dakota’s continuing education program are located in the North Dakota Administrative Code § 28-04.  Please be sure you read and understand the administrative rules.  A brief outline of the basic information is provided as a quick reference.

PDH                                                                Professional Development Hour-minimum 50 minutes

CEU                                                                Continuing Education Unit-10 PDH’s or 10 hours

 

  • You must report 30 PDH’s during the renewal process unless you have been told by the Board office that you need less than that.
  • A maximum of 15 PDH’s may be carried over from one reporting period to another.
  • Registrants who have “Retired” status licenses do not need to obtain PDH’s.
  • PDH’s will be rounded to the nearest 1/2 hour and no activity under 1/2 hour will be accepted.
  • Teaching an approved class for the first time entitles the presenter to twice the amount of PDH’s.
  • Registrants may earn up to two PDH’s for “active participation” in a professional organization. A maximum of 6 PDH’s can be obtained for “active participation”.
  • Record keeping is the responsibility of the registrant.
  • CPC materials must be maintained at least four years from the date of the last biennial renewal.
  • Exemption for active duty military, long term illness and other situations are allowed by rule.  Contact the Board office if any of these situations apply to you.
