Land Surveyor Intern Application

Upon successful completion of your Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) Exam individuals will need to apply to receive their Land Surveying Intern (LSIT) certification. This certification is required for all individuals who will be seeking future Professional Land Surveying (LS) registration in the state of North Dakota.

According to North Dakota Century Code (NDCC) 43-19.1-16.1 and 43-19.1-16.2 the requirements for registering as an LSIT are as follows:

1.) Successful completion of a Board approved exam in the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS Exam), this requirement cannot be waived by the Board.

2.) Minimum of four years of qualifying land surveying experience of character satisfactory to the Board.

3.) Education can account for some of this experience and the requirements follows as such:

  • ABET Accredited Baccalaureates degree in Engineering or Surveying = Requires no experience
  • Non-ABET Accredited Engineering or Surveying Degree = Requires 2 years of experience
  • Two year Engineering Technology or Surveying Degree = Requires 2 years of experience
  • No Education = Requires full 4 years of experience

2.) Three character references that are NOT family members or members of our Board.

3.) If applicable, official copies of your transcripts

  • All foreign degrees require a credentials evaluation from NCEES.

Instructions for submitting your application:

1.) All applications must be fully filled out, this means do not leave any applicable sections blank. Your application must be typed, hand written or illegible applications will not be accepted and will be returned.

2.) Copies of transcripts, and all reference letters must be mailed to the Board office from your universities and references.

Standard processing time for all applications is 6-8 weeks from receipt of a completed application. All applications are processed in the order they are received.
