CBT stands for computer-based testing. In 2014, the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) and Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) exams will be offered solely on computer. Some of the reasons for converting the exams to a computer-based format are to allow greater scheduling flexibility for candidates, more uniformity in testing conditions, and enhanced security for exam content. In the past, the FE and FS were offered only twice per year—in April and October. Under the new CBT platform, examinees will be able to register and sit for exams year-round. NCEES has partnered with Pearson VUE, to provide computer-based delivery of the exams. Pearson VUE has a network of about 300 professional centers. In North Dakota the centers are located in Bismarck and Fargo. Additional information is available at www.ncees.org.
The application and approval process to take the exams will not change. Exam applicants will still need to complete the same application forms and be approved by the Board or university prior to registering with NCEES to take the exam.
